If your reading this from the other hemisphere you’d ” Understand ” where we are coming from as we trade the rain for the blue sky. The end of winter is nigh. The last flooded surge came today. As every season rolls by so too do our lives change, dropping new seeds, flowers e.t.c
Australia’s Rick Armour i noticed is featured in a few Art mags on the stands and i think his day in the sun is well over due. His work blew me away when ABC did aSunday Arts feature on him early this year. I’m a sucker for dreamscapes and emotional reflections; i think this image is a great nod to a wet winter.
Personal Message Unit / wink wink , nudge nudge. Anything with Parrot noises, Monkey Squeals and general “Jungle Percussion” is dope. The H.I.T.S 12 is a winner and we received one at AAC a short time ago in celebration of a new Australian break through.
We are playing Jacques Renault and Canyons edits tonight in honour of their recent visits this winter. Come and see us if your in Limbo from 2-5am. Tony Mitolo has a David Essex ” Rock On ” edit that is prime time and lets hope he drops it tonight.

After nearly 2 years , a lawsuit over their name and losing their drummer to the Midnight Juggernauts the Lost Valentinos are finally back playing live in Adelaide on the 27th of August with support from The Swiss.
Lost Valentinos are hands down one of the most interesting indie bands in Australia at the moment. After what seems like an eternity of waiting their debut album produced by Ewan Pearson is finally upon us – it almost felt like waiting for the Avalanches second album.
Good friend Prince Aaronak has began moving along the Adult Arts Club mix train with his latest offering of some old classics, new classics and some forever favourites.
His August mix is now up and available to download for your ears over on our mixes page.
It would be easy to speculate that the recent turn of events in the States has brought some older acts out of the dust ( the good kind ) and seen them get back on the road to pay the Rent. Pros & Cons of the GFC. These guys have a deeper history with us here.
Attempting to cover the ” translation of music ” to the soul in this blog is ambitious to say the least. Most of us have our life experiences left to draw apon in times of reflection and many of us have a cross roads at one point or another in our lives and when it comes we often have a Song / Artist we attach the moments to. For me the guys that helped save my life as a confused teenager or as a down and out Adultis Steely Dan.
Donald Fagen and Walter Becker are geniuses of the literary and music kind. They weave rich narratives that unfold over years of listening not just minutes. The musical content isnt bland or badly recorded…ever. Their masterpiece is Aja. Whilst many great albums followed and a few before prevailed this record was the touch stone for me in the face of adversity.
Donald’s voice sounds a little like Jerry Lewis sometimes but you get over and used to it quite quickly. The phrasing and chordal changes are the signature core of every song, accessing the groove with some amazing players, different on every track. Take some time out and listen to the fabric of these timeless titans.
They are playing some shows across the Americas for their Rent Party 09 till mid Sept http://www.steelydan.com and we highly recommend you see them live – They are amazing in the flesh
Not sure why I wasn’t aware of this song but since I first heard it tonight I have been pretty addicted. It has that great DFA charm like it could have been created any time in the last 30 years.
I think it may be safe to say that Erol Alkan is a ’superstar DJ’. But instead of playing the same back catalogue of post-rave dance hits with an ever increasingly eleborate laser shows to convince a new generation of impressionable drugged out youth that he is in fact some sort of ‘Ecstacy God’, he releases an album of obscure psych rock re-edits. This interview mostly focuses on his beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve project which is worth checking out. I didn’t include the part of the interview where he gets pissed off with me for asking about his 7 year old Kylie Minogue and New Order mash up.
Winston: What was the idea behind the Beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve project?
Erol Alkan: The idea began when me and Richard decided to come together and do a dj set where we played more weird avant garde music which led to us producing music together. We did about a dozen remixes which leads us to this album. It was very natural, jus the enthusiasm for the music that we both had. Just coming together and just putting our creative minds into force and seeing what happens.
